Orlando Day Trips

Living in Central Florida makes it easy to explore coast to coast! Get in the car and find charming towns, historic places, and incredible culture as close as a 30 minute drive. Pack up the kids, your friends, or your dog and let’s find your next adventure!

1. DeLand

Some of the best antique shops and art can be found in this idyllic town. Stroll down Woodland Boulevard and pop into one of the many shops along the way. The city’s founder dreamed of it being the “Athens of Florida,” and the aptly named theater is still operating today! Visit DeLand during one of their many festival such as their Fall Festival of the Arts.

Just a 40 minute drive from Orlando, this is an easy trip you can do in one day! Before you go, grab a beer at one of the many breweries like Persimmon Hollow Brewing Co. or Central 28, I loved the Sunshine Greetings!

2. Mount Dora

They say Mount Dora is “something special” and I’d have to agree! This town has tons of southern charm and rich history which you’ll see around every corner. Walk around their lakeside downtown and enjoy some delicious seafood from the top rated restaurants. Known as the Festival City, there is something to do in Mount Dora year round.

3. Ybor City

Have you ever wanted to travel to another country without a passport, plane, or leaving the continental US? Well an hour and a half’s drive will bring you onto Cuban soil! Jose Marti Park located in Ybor City contains soil from all the provinces in Cuba. It’s the only Cuban owned land in the US aside from the consulate. Grab lunch at one of the many delicious restaurants, like the long standing Columbia – Florida’s oldest restaurant!

4. St Augustine

St. Augustine is the oldest continuously inhabited city in the United States. Founded Colonized by Spain in 1565, this port town has history, charm, is super walkable and stroller friendly! Walk down the winding streets or visit Castillo de San Marcos, the huge fort that sits at the city edge. This town is definitely the most touristy on this list, so keep that in mind when visiting and opt for a weekday instead to truly enjoy the sights and restaurants without the crowds.

5. Sanford

Sanford is part of the Greater Orlando area and the closest drive. Just 30-40 minutes from downtown Orlando (depending on traffic) Sanford is a complete 180 to the madness of the parks most people come for. Walk around Historic Downtown Sanford along the river, or feed the animals at the Central Florida Zoo. Make sure you stay for the Food Truck Fiesta and sample in some delicious bites from around the world down the cobblestone streets.

Whether you’re visiting the theme parks or living here, exploring Central Florida should be on your to do list! There’s plenty of adventure and fun from coast to coast for the whole family.
